Now in its 3rd year, the Think Digital summit brings together some of the leading voices from the international business community and European Union policymakers. The objective is to provoke debate between the panel speakers and over 300 attendees on several high profile topics that are influencing the digital agenda today. This year's event took place in the majestic surroundings of the Egmont palace in Brussels.
UFODRIVE, through CEO Aidan McClean, was pleased to participate in the panel discussion on "How The Digital Industry Can Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals" with fellow panelists, Belgian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, Deputy Director General of DG GROW Antti Peltomäki and GeSI Vice-Chairman Caleb Lee.
The central theme of the discussion was the 2030 climate and energy framework and its 3 key targets for 2030:
Outlining UFODRIVE's commitment to emissions free mobility, Aidan McClean explained "We need to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable mobility to achieve the SDGs. Governments can help support this transition through capital investment in charging infrastructure and electric vehicle incentives.”
The stated target reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and improvements in energy efficiency are ambitious and represent a significant step towards re-balancing the planet's energy requirements for a more sustainable future. Achieving these targets will require material changes in the actions and habits around which we live our everyday lives.
Driving, especially in our congested cities, is poised to undergo radical change in the next 5-10 years. The early adopters who have already switched to Electric Vehicles are leading the way and as the switch to electric goes mainstream, the immediate impact of removing polluting cars from the roads is expected to be one of the most significant contributors to attaining these targets.
UFODRIVE is proud to be in the position of immediately delivering CO2 savings and, perhaps even more significantly, welcomes its unique position amongst car rental companies in helping drivers to test the electric experience before considering switching to electric themselves.
